This section is about checking the setup of Microsoft Office 365 (also known as
Outlook 2016 and Outlook 2019, versions 15.x and 16.x) and SpamSieve when
using the InboxSpamSieve setup. If you are using the Inbox setup, you
should instead go to the Checking the Outlook Setup section. For older
versions of Outlook, please see the Checking the Outlook 2011 Setup
section.
- In Outlook:
- Go to the Outlook menu and make sure that Legacy Outlook is
checked or that New Outlook is unchecked. (Some versions of
Outlook don’t have these settings, which is OK.)
- Make sure that each account has an InboxSpamSieve folder.
- In the Tools ‣ Rules window, make sure that each account has a
rule for moving new messages to the InboxSpamSieve folder, as
described in the section Outlook IMAP/Exchange Account Rules,
Outlook Gmail Account Rules, or Outlook POP Account Rules
(depending on the type of the account).
- In System Settings ‣ Privacy & Security ‣ Automation, make sure
that SpamSieve has access to control Outlook. This is described
more in the Granting Automation Access section. (This step only
applies if you are using macOS 10.14 or later.)
- In SpamSieve, go to Settings ‣ Outlook ‣ Setup. Make sure that
Enable spam filtering for InboxSpamSieve is selected.
- To test that messages are able to move properly for manual operations:
- Drag a spam message to the inbox. Select it and choose Train as
Spam from the SpamSieve menu bar icon. Its category and color
should change to Junk. It should move to the Junk Email
folder.
- Drag the spam message back to the inbox again. This time, select it
and choose Filter Messages from the SpamSieve menu bar icon. It
should move to the Junk Email folder.
- Finally, we need to check whether automatic operations work:
- When new messages are sent to you, they should temporarily move to
the InboxSpamSieve folder. They will stay there longer
depending on the time interval set in Settings ‣ Outlook ‣
Filtering.
- Good messages in the InboxSpamSieve folder should move to the
inbox, and spam messages there should move to the Junk Email
folder. After filtering is complete, the InboxSpamSieve folder
should be empty (unless new messages have arrived in the interim).
- You can test this by dragging a spam message to the
InboxSpamSieve folder. Then go to Settings ‣ Outlook ‣
Filtering and click Filter Now.
- If it works with Filter Now, it should work automatically,
although there may be a slight delay before messages are filtered,
depending on how often you’ve set SpamSieve to check for new
messages and how much mail you have.
If something is not as described above check the Log window in SpamSieve
to see whether an error was reported. If you don’t understand what the problem
is, please go to SpamSieve’s Help menu and choose Save Diagnostic
Report. Contact technical support, attaching the report file, and
explain what happened when you followed these instructions.
