2.1   Requirements

ToothFairy works with macOS 10.13 and later.

ToothFairy works with devices that can be connected via the macOS Bluetooth menu or System Settings. Please make sure the devices you want to connect have been paired to your Mac and work reliably before using them with ToothFairy.

Bluetooth Multipoint

Switching Bluetooth devices between multiple Macs requires that the Bluetooth device can be paired with more than one computer/phone at a time. This is not supported by the current-generation Apple Magic Keyboard/Mouse/Trackpad.

Connections

Connecting and disconnecting via ToothFairy should work for all devices supported by macOS. However, if a device only supports Bluetooth LE, it might not work with the macOS Bluetooth chooser window, and so you would need to add the device to ToothFairy by entering its address rather than by picking it from a list.

Battery Status

ToothFairy is able to show the battery status for most devices, including all Apple AirPods and input devices (Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad), Beats and Bose headphones, and more. Not all Bluetooth Classic devices support reporting their battery level, but in general if you see the battery level for such a device displayed by the built-in software on iOS or macOS it will also display via ToothFairy. Devices that only support Bluetooth LE may not be able to display their battery level in ToothFairy.

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)

Devices that only support Bluetooth LE may have limited support in ToothFairy, as described above. Unfortunately, it is not always clear what a device supports. A definite indicator is that if a device shows its battery level in System Preferences ‣ Bluetooth on macOS 12 or earlier it should be fully supported by ToothFairy. With later versions of macOS, it is harder to tell:

If you have a device that doesn’t seem to be fully supported, please contact us. We can add it to the list above and may add direct support for popular devices in a future version of ToothFairy.
