SpamSieve normally moves spam messages to the Junk mailbox. When using the
Mail extension setup, the Move it to the Trash if the spam score is at
least setting can be used to move certain (more spammy) messages to the
Trash mailbox instead. Separating the more spammy messages, which are less
likely to be mistakes, from the less spammy ones lets you concentrate your
efforts on reviewing the ones in Junk that are closer to the border line.
(It’s still a good idea to check that no good messages were caught as spam in
the Trash, rather than just emptying it or setting it to auto-delete
messages sight unseen.)
For example:
- If you set the score to 99, when you train a message as spam, its
sender will go on SpamSieve’s blocklist, and future messages from the
same name or address will go directly to the Trash. You can also
make your own blocklist rules to match the messages that you
consider to be the most spammy.
- If you set the score to 50, SpamSieve will move all the spam
messages to the Trash instead of to the Junk mailbox.
- To move particular colors (i.e. spam levels) of messages to the
Trash, set the score to: 99 (blue), 95 (gray), 88 (purple), 81
(red), 75 (orange), 50 (yellow). These numbers are also shown in the
tooltips for the colors in the Settings window.
- If you only want messages from a certain sender (i.e. not all messages
matching the blocklist) to go to the Trash, you can create a rule
in Mail’s Settings to do this. It should be above the SpamSieve
rules (if any). These messages will bypass SpamSieve completely, so it
cannot protect you if your rule accidentally matches a good message.
