7.1.1.4   If Apple Mail Shows an Error When Moving Messages

A small number of users have reported that, when SpamSieve’s background filtering asks Mail to move a message to the Junk mailbox, Mail shows an error alert that says something like:

The message “<subject>“ could not be moved to the mailbox “<account name>“

The specified object was not found in the store., The process failed to get the correct properties.

This seems to mostly, if not exclusively, happen with Exchange accounts. There are several separate problems that can manifest in this same way, including damage to Mail’s files and possibly bugs in Mail itself or the mail server. If you record sample log when the alert appears and contact us, we can investigate and try to determine specifically what is happening on your Mac. However, here are some potential solutions that you can try yourself and that will likely resolve the problem:

  1. Reset Mail’s junk database.
  2. Click here to tell SpamSieve not to tell Mail that the messagse are junk. This can avoid hangs when the junk database is malfunctioning and resetting it doesn’t help. (You can click here to go back to the default setting.)
  3. Mail can show this error if a message is unexpectedly deleted from the server while it’s trying to access the message. Make sure that you don’t have any other rules, scripts, or devices that are deleting your spam messages.
  4. In Settings ‣ Accounts ‣ Mailbox Behaviors in Mail, make sure that Store junk messages on the server is unchecked for each account. (This is the opposite of what we normally recommend.)
  5. Click here to tell SpamSieve to move the spam messages to a local mailbox called Spam instead of to the Junk mailbox. (You can click here to go back to the default setting.)
