7.12.4   Does SpamSieve launch automatically?

Yes. Once it’s installed, you do not need to launch SpamSieve yourself:

• Apple Mail and Outlook will launch SpamSieve when they launch.
• The other mail clients will launch SpamSieve when they receive new e-mail messages that need to be processed or when you train a message as spam or as good.

In order to avoid SpamSieve showing the Settings window when it’s not wanted, we recommend that you do not add SpamSieve to System Settings ‣ General ‣ Login Items ‣ Open at Login. It should only be under Allow in the Background.

If SpamSieve is not auto-launching as it should, please:

• Make sure that it’s installed in the /Applications folder as described in the Installing SpamSieve section.
• Go to System Settings ‣ General ‣ Login Items and make sure that SpamSieve is enabled under Allow in the Background.
• Find the appropriate section to check the setup in your mail client.
• Try toggling filtering off and then on again in Settings ‣ Apple Mail ‣ Setup or Settings ‣ Outlook ‣ Setup.
• See the Sending in an Error Report section.

Although the SpamSieve application must be running in order to filter your mail, it ordinarily runs in the background with no user interface visible. The Dock icon can be hidden if desired, and you can also set it to quit when your mail client quits.
