FEATURE REQUEST: Basic File Renaming - like MacOS Finder

Many times, I want to do a batch change in the name of files. However this has to be done manually in Eaglefiler.

If I went directly to the folder in the Finder containing the files and rename them, then Eaglefiler would lose track of them creating orphan file references.

Rescanning can reenter the files to Eaglefiler but the orphaned file references containing the original name would still be present. These orphaned file reference would have to be manually removed.

  1. It would be great if Eaglefiler has a file renaming feature that can be basic like the MacOS Finder’s renaming feature.

  2. It would be great if there is a feature to remove orphaned file references.

Thanks!

You can also do it via script, for example Replace in Filenames.

Yeah, this is not a good idea because you would also lose metadata that’s associated with those files.

Yes, this is on my to-do list.

You can use the Verify command to find missing files and then bulk-move them to the trash.

Thank!
Thank you for pointing out EagleFiler can be scripted!
