You can always import into EagleFiler using Import URLs…, Import Files…, or drag and drop. However, if you are already viewing the information that you want import, it’s much easier to just press the capture key.
When you press the capture key, EagleFiler automatically determines what you’re currently viewing (or what you have selected) and imports it into the current library. If no library is currently open, EagleFiler opens the Capture with options window so that you can pick a library.
Note: The first time you press the capture key, you may need to give EagleFiler Automation access.
The Capture Process
EagleFiler will bounce its Dock icon once and show a camera icon in the Dock to let you know that the capture has started. This phase is when EagleFiler figures out which items you asked it to import. It usually only takes a fraction of a second, but it can last longer if you’ve selected a large number of messages in Apple Mail. In that case, you will see an occasional status window in the center of the screen telling you how many messages it’s found so far. When EagleFiler has figured out what to import, it will play a camera shutter sound. Then the Dock icon will change to show the green import arrow. This is the main phase of the importing, and you’ll see progress in EagleFiler’s Activity window and a spinner in the main window. When the import has finished, you’ll see a notification in Notification Center.
Which Key to Press
By default, the capture key is F1. If you have a notebook or an aluminum Apple keyboard, you’ll need to hold the fn key to type F1 unless you’ve checked Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys in the Keyboard & Mouse settings pane or are using FunctionFlip. If you have a Microsoft keyboard, you may need to check the position of the Fn Lock key. You can also change the capture key to a different key or key combination if you prefer.
You can also capture by clicking and holding on EagleFiler’s Dock icon and choosing Capture From <Application> from the menu.
When You Can Capture
The capture key works when the frontmost application is one that supports capture. The Drop Pad window will tell you when this is the case.
EagleFiler must be running in order for the capture key to work. Thus, you may wish to add EagleFiler to your Login Items in the Accounts pane of System Settings. You can easily do this by clicking on the EagleFiler icon in the Dock and choosing Open at Login.
Importing Only Part of a Page
If you’d rather import just the selected text instead of the entire Web page or document, you can use drag and drop or the EagleFiler: Import service (⌘!) instead of the capture key.
