3.8   Transferring Files Securely

You can use DropDMG to transfer files from one Mac to another, while protecting them from unauthorized access.

  1. Put the files in a folder.
  2. Go to the Configurations tab of DropDMG’s Settings window and set DropDMG to create a compressed .dmg image that’s encrypted with a passphrase.
  3. Drag your folder onto DropDMG. This will create an encrypted .dmg file.
  4. You can then send this file via e-mail, upload it to Dropbox or an FTP server, or transfer it physically (via a flash drive, hard disk, CD, etc.) without worrying about anyone accessing its contents.
  5. An authorized person can access the files by double-clicking the .dmg file and entering the passphrase.
