They are Apple\u2019s preferred format for distributing Mac software and the only archive format whose contents you can directly access in the Mac Finder\u2014no extraction or third-party software required.<\/p>\n\n<p>Deliver your Mac app on a <tt>.dmg<\/tt> file with a <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/licenses\">software license agreement<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/custom-volume-icon\">custom volume icon<\/a>, and a precise <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/layouts\">icon layout<\/a> atop a Retina-optimized background picture. Customers can install simply by dragging and dropping the app onto the convenient <tt>Applications<\/tt> folder link. <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/signing\">Code-sign<\/a> your <tt>.dmg<\/tt> so that macOS knows it can be trusted after download.<\/p>\n\n<p>This is a free update for owners of <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/blog\/2010\/06\/29\/dropdmg-3-0\/\">DropDMG 3.0<\/a> that includes the following enhancements:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/create-macos-install-di\">Create macOS Install Disk<\/a> command now pre-downloads any required assets from Apple\u2019s servers so that the install disk contains everything that you need to install macOS.<\/li>\n<li>Added instructions for <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/creating-a-dropdmg-quic\">Creating a DropDMG Quick Action<\/a> in macOS 10.14\u2019s Finder.<\/li>\n<li>DropDMG now supports the Hardened Runtime on macOS 10.14.<\/li>\n<li>DropDMG is now notarized by Apple.<\/li>\n<li>Improved the <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/security-privacy-acce\">Security &amp; Privacy Access<\/a> instructions.<\/li>\n<li>DropDMG now reports a helpful error message if the <tt>dropdmg<\/tt> command-line tool fails because its parent process doesn\u2019t have Automation access to control DropDMG on macOS 10.14.<\/li>\n<li>Added <tt>AppendToNameWhenConverting<\/tt> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/esoteric-preferences\">esoteric preferences<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The license agreement editor now uses a darker background color in Dark Mode to match the disk image mounter.<\/li>\n<li>Improved the appearance of the log detail drawer in Dark Mode.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>About<\/strong> window now includes a link to the privacy policy and has an updated layout.<\/li>\n<li>Worked around a bug in macOS 10.14 where the font and color buttons in the license agreement editor didn\u2019t show their text because the images were too large.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>DropDMG 3.5.5 works with macOS 10.7 through 10.14. <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/support#older-versions\">Older versions<\/a> are available for older operating systems.
