They are Apple\u2019s preferred format for distributing Mac software and the only archive format whose contents you can directly access in the Mac Finder\u2014no extraction or third-party software required.<\/p>\n\n<p>Deliver your Mac app on a <tt>.dmg<\/tt> file with a <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/licenses\">software license agreement<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/custom-volume-icon\">custom volume icon<\/a>, and a precise <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/layouts\">icon layout<\/a> atop a Retina-optimized background picture. Customers can install simply by dragging and dropping the app onto the convenient <tt>Applications<\/tt> folder link. <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/signing\">Code-sign<\/a> your <tt>.dmg<\/tt> so that macOS knows it can be trusted after download.<\/p>\n\n<p>This is a free update for owners of <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/blog\/2010\/06\/29\/dropdmg-3-0\/\">DropDMG 3.0<\/a> that includes the following enhancements:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n\t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/images\/3.6.6\/new-blank-disk-image@2x.png\" title=\"New Blank Disk Image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"161\" alt=\"Settings: Configurations\" src=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/images\/3.6.6\/new-blank-disk-image-thumb%402x.png\" height=\"117\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>When creating a <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/new-blank-disk-image\">New Blank Disk Image\u2026<\/a>, there is now a preset size for <strong>macOS Install Disk<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\t<li>Worked around a macOS change that could cause the filename column of the log to be truncated.<\/li>\n\t<li>Improved the <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/format\">Format<\/a> section of the manual.<\/li>\n\t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/images\/3.6\/preferences-configurations@2x.png\" title=\"Preferences: Configurations\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"161\" alt=\"Settings: Configurations\" src=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/images\/3.6\/preferences-configurations-thumb%402x.png\" height=\"127\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>Added <tt>HdiutilFilesystem<\/tt> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/esoteric-preferences\">esoteric preferences<\/a>. This makes it possible to use APFS when creating a disk image from a folder, which can make it faster for the end user to copy files from the mounted disk image.<\/li>\n\t<li>Tried to work around a change in macOS 13 that could cause DropDMG to crash at quit if you had used the font panel.<\/li>\n\t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/images\/3.6\/preferences-licenses@2x.png\" title=\"Preferences: Licenses\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"161\" alt=\"Settings: Licenses\" src=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/images\/3.6\/preferences-licenses-thumb%402x.png\" height=\"122\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>Fixed bug where setting a disk image to auto-open would sometimes fail when running on an Apple Silicon Mac.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>DropDMG 3.6.6 works with macOS 10.13 through macOS 13. Older <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/help\/version-history\">DropDMG versions<\/a> are <a href=\"https:\/\/c-command.com\/dropdmg\/support#older-versions\">available<\/a> for older versions of macOS.
