I believe DropDMG already preserves the ownership. However, when the .dmg file is mounted on the Mac for installation (via double-clicking the .dmg file), Mac OS X changes the ownership of the files. You can get around this by using DropDMG’s Mount Image command and making sure that Enable file ownership is checked.

Or, you could try using a different format such as .tar.

The following was posted (http://c-command.com/blog/2013/05/03/dropdmg-3-2-2/) on the DropDMG blog:

Version 3.2.2 of DropDMG...

The following was posted on the DropDMG blog:

Version 3.2.2 of DropDMG is now available. This is a free update for owners of DropDMG 3.0 that includes the following enhancements:

It is now possible to set (or override) layout variables from AppleScript or the command line. This is also useful when creating a disk image of non-application files; DropDMG would be unable to intuit the {$APP_BASENAME}, but you can still set it to whatever you want in your script and have it rendered into the layout.

The HybridFSArgs esoteric preference lets you control which filesystems DropDMG uses for hybrid .iso disk images.

Fixed a bug where sometimes creating a disk image failed if it contained a very large number of small files.

Fixed a bug where .iso files would sometimes be owned by root instead of the user.

Made various minor adjustments to the toolbar icons in the main window.

Added Japanese localization.

For information about previous releases of DropDMG, please see the version history.

Sorry, but this is not possible with DropDMG (or with .dmg files in general). I think the “Mac way” to do this would be to put just your app on the .dmg, store the files inside the .app package, and have the app install the files when it’s launched.
