Encrypt part of library?

I'm really enjoying EagleFiler, thanks for all your work on it!

Here's my dilemma: I have an EagleFiler library called Meetings to hold all my documents, etc. related to meetings of the various committees, etc. I'm a part of. I serve on a Board in which I have several responsibilities. One of those responsibilities involves correspondence and notes that are confidential, and thus should be encrypted and/or password protected. None of the rest of my meeting files need this level of security.

Is there a way to either:
-encrypt/password protect only a subsection of a library OR
-save a link to an encrypted library/sparseimage in the Meetings library?

Or is there another approach that might work better?

Of the two I've listed, I'd probably prefer the latter (a link to another library)

Device Image Format

I want to create a SuperDuper! backup of my internal hard drive, then make a device image of that on an external hard drive. If I can make the device image in a read-write format, I can use SuperDuper! to perform smart updates to the device image when it is mounted. That would be superior to having to create a new device image every time I wanted to update.

However...

The manual states that device images should have "Optimized for restores" checked in the configurations panel. But, that option is disabled for most of the format choices. Can I ignore the "Optimized for restores" option, and just use "Scan Image for Restore" later on in Disk Utility? If yes, which read-write format is best for a device image? Is an up-dateable device image even possible?

dropdmg command-line tool

Does the command-line tool support both --license-folder and --layout-folder? I can get either one to work just fine, but specifying both together doesn't work: I get an error along the lines of 'Invalid “layout folder”' (if I specified the layout folder first), or 'Invalid “license folder”:' (if I specified the license folder first).

Hello all,

Day 2 of my 30 day trial, but I think I'll be buying.

Whilst experimenting, I clipped a portion of a webpage to a new rtf and then dragged a jpg from my desktop into the page.

My question is ..how can I now remove the jpg. I can move around inside the page but not remove nor resize it.

Mail periodically freezes

Ever since I upgraded SpamSieve to 2.8.3, my Apple Mail client will periodically (once or twice a day) stop loading mail from any of my (4) mail servers. I quit Mail and re-start it and SpamSieve will re-start and filter out all the junk I had received. It's as if SpamSieve is choking on a message and blocking anything from getting to my Spam folder or my In Box.

The only changes to my system have been the SpamSieve upgrade to 2.8.3 and the new Apple graphics drivers.

Feature request: Train Gmail and other Server-side filters

Hi,

I used Spam Sieve a few years ago, but ever since my webhost enabled spam filtering right on my server (and subsequently me moving to Gmail), I haven't had a significant need for client side filter.

However, what I think would be useful is if when I executed a SpamSieve training command, it also triggered the similar action on the mail server. For example, TrainBad also simulating a click on the "Mark as Spam" gmail button (which oviously is virtual).

I realize that any implementation would be specific to the Service provider, and that this likely isn't easy. But I think it would be a valuable feature. For example, I rarely get a Spam message that sneaks past Gmail into my in-box. But every week or so I do find some false positives in my spam folder. Helping Gmail learn about those messages is far more important than moving the message locally within Mail, and I'd rather not have to go to the Gmail web interface to do it.

I have purchased and installed 2.8.3, but when I entered the Serial Number:

a dialog box appears telling me this serial number is invalid for 2.8.3.
Can you help me through this impasse?

Suggestion - Making the Dock icon invisible

Hello,

I know the way
to make SpamSieve’s Dock icon invisible

but as you know

"If you download a new copy of SpamSieve, it will have a new Info.plist file, so you would need to make the above change again if you still want SpamSieve’s Dock icon to be hidden."

Why don't you include this option in the Preferences so we don't need to go play around in the plist file to make changes

If you could, it would make it easier for us

Happen to get multi windows for one library

When I click [Library]-[Records], I happen to get action of double click occasionally.
Then I can get another window for the same library [main].
The new window is titled as [main(2) - Records (13,034 records)]. After closing this window and I occasionally double click [Records], this time, I have [main(3) -- Records (13,034 records)].

Is this correct action for EagleFiler?
If yes, what kind of purpose is this action aimed to?
It's for opening & comparing two or more different records simultaneously?

Background images disappear 3.0.2

Just installed the update and now the layout which included a background image, the applications folder, and the program icon placeholder results in the final dmg without the background image.

I've attached a screenshot of the layout. The yellow "Drag to...." does not appear in the final dmg.

PS. I can't tell in this forum if I will be notified of a reply.

Zip File Options

Is there any way to override this to merge files into a singe archive and set the compression level?

Hi Michael,

I have been using SpamSieve for a while now. What I have found is that over time - when I tag a lot of spam, the opposite happens; the more I tag, the more spam starts coming through. I know you said you don't advise to reset the corpus, but I just did that and the spam catching has improved tremendously.

Anyway, my question is, how do you stop spoof emails? I mean ones like "your order from Amazon" etc... These look exactly like the real thing except for maybe a destination link. If I tag those as spam, wouldn't the real ones be marked as spam?

Safari Open "safe" files after downloading

I have built my dmg file and if I double click on it, everything works as expected, the license is displayed, the image mounted and the window opened with my icons, background image etc.

However if I download it with Safari and the Open "safe" files after downloading option is checked, it is not working as expected. Safari displays the license, mounts the image, copies the files and unmounts the image. What I am left with is a folder in downloads that contains my files. If I double click on it, it opens with my layout and works as expected. But why is Safari copying the files rather than just mounting the image?

When I download DropDMG it works as expected so I guess I am doing something wrong when building my dmg.

I build using the command line tool and do have the do --internet-enabled parameter set.

Any ideas?

Doesn't Learn AOL Spam

I have a legacy account on AOL that I access from Apple Mail (as well as several other email accounts also through Apple Mail). Spam Sieve works great on everything (including learning about what is Spam when I train it) except for the AOL account. No matter what i do to train it it keeps letting in all the AOL account spam. I have almost no spam getting through otherwise. Any ideas as to what I need to do?

No Zoom for Doc Files?

Michael stated that all View functions work with doc files in the EF library. However these functions don't work for me: all the zoom buttons and zoom functions in the View Menu are greyed out when I view doc files. I have EF 1.4.14, OS X 10.5.8, PB G4. The zoom functions in the Window Menu do work, but these don't change the magnification.

Hi, I'm evaluating eaglefiler as a replacement of devonthink pro. By far I'm very satisfied with the result. The only thing that bother me is that eaglefiler's record list shows all records in a library. What I want is record list only shows folders but not the files inside folders. Can this behavior be customized?

By the way, is student discount available for eaglefiler?

I'm a relatively happy, but not ecstatic SpamSieve user. Initially it seemed to work really well... now about a dozen spams, really OBVIOUS spams, get through every day. It's a lot better then the hundreds that got through before, but I'm not recommending the product to anyone until it lives up to the Pogue claim of a CLEAN inbox. BUT that's not what this post is about... I just got one of those Android phones. What a freakin headache. All the spam that SpamSieve is catching in Entourage is now flooding my phone. So now what? Does anyone out there know how to filter spam on an Android phone?

Tagged emails in mboxes not picked up by Leap

I'm currently using Leap to search my tagged emails in EF. This is no problem unless the email I'm looking for is stored within a mailbox in EF. Then, for some reason, Leap can't detect its tags. Am I missing something here? Or, alternatively, is there a way to force EF to import emails without containing them in mailboxes at all? Any help much appreciated.

I have a specific address that I want to block. Spam sieve appears to work great, but on this address (AustinFreecycle@yahoogroups.com) it never moves it to the spam, even after repeated attempts to mark it as spam.

I am on the most current version of both mail and spam sieve.

Any ideas on what to check for this?

I have used SpamSieve for years with gratitude, but woke up this morning to find that Mail had crashed. It's a SpamSieve conflict and I have no idea what it is. I am using the latest version of SpamSieve (in fact I bought another brand new copy today and reinstalled it just to be sure). Mail will not stay open for more than half a second before it crashes, again and again and again, so I can't disable the SpamSieve rule in Mail preferences. I have deleted EVERY TRACE of SpamSieve from my hard drive. What am I missing? PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I am 24 hours behind in my work from trying to solve this through Apple. I have tried everything they recommend. Nothing works. It is a SpamSieve problem. I'm running OSX 10.6.4 on a MacBook Pro. Please do NOT email me because I won't get it until this is fixed. Please respond on this forum. Why don't you have a phone number listed? This is ridiculous. I will never again use SpamSieve but I need to get rid of it first!

Software distribution dmg, including Applications folder

I want to create a software distribution dmg similar to the one DropDMG is distributed with where the user drags my application icon to the Applications alias in the dmg to install.

I am using the layout feature and have set up my icons and added the Applications alias in the desired location. Everything looks good.

I copy my files to a temporary distribution folder and run DropDMG from the command line referencing my layout.

Everything works for my icons, readme etc.

But I cannot get the Applications folder to show correctly. What do I put in my distribution folder so that the Applications folder is included correctly in the final dmg?

Why DMG Filename Truncation?

I've long used version 2, typically dropping a folder on it. The folder has usually been given the name I want for the DMG except for the extension. Also, I'm used to altering the name slightly for the volume name.

Now, the "Automatic" name mode is just that, so no chance to make changes, but if I use "Ask", I always have to retype both the base and volume names because it truncates them.

e.g. I have a folder named "SomeApp_3.5.3" and when the save dialog comes up, it has both names listed as "SomeApp_3".

I read the manual but I still don't understand why DropDMG insists on truncating the filename as it mentions truncation only if the length is beyond the OS limits. It appears to me it chops every name with a '.' in it, which certainly isn't necessary.

In all other ways, version 3 seems excellent.

Invisible HTML isn't indexed

I'm capturing threads from a somewhat volatile forum as webarchives. Their BBCODE allows text to be hidden behind a button that only the brave may click. It uses display=none CSS.

Searching a library for strings that I know are hidden does not find the files in question. The Finder does, so I guess this isn't some Spotlight importer's fault.

Or maybe my library is broken and I have to re-index it somehow?

Alternate Location for Mail data files

Hi

I wanted to move the Mail data files from their normal location within ~/Library. This is mainly because ~/Library contains a lot of stuff that does not warrant backing up (the biggest of which is ~/Library/Caches) so I should like to avoid backing up the Library folder. I can get Mail.app to work by placing an alias to the real Mail data files in ~/Library folder, however, SpamSieve does not then work.

Is there a way of having SpamSieve work if the Mail data files are not really in ~/Library, or, alternately, does one recommend that I move the Caches files outside ~/Library - and then use an alias in ~/Library to fool the applications that want to put their caches in that folder.

3.x Does Not Ask for Volume Name, Only Base Name

I use DropDMG in a film/video workflow to make read-only archives of P2 and RED media.

However, with the update to 3.x, DropDMG has stopped allowing me to set the VOLUME name of the archives. It still allows me to set the BASE name.

This is highly problematic, as I need the volume name to change so I can identify camera/reel/etc information on the archive when it is mounted.

I noticed that in the patch notes (and in the help) it clearly says that the Names ASK option will allow me to set the base and volume name (just like in version 2.x). I am quite able to set the base name; there is no field or dialog ever to allow me to set the volume name.

A gather from the help and patch notes, then, this IS a bug.

Thus, I post.

OMG HELP! Inbox empty after install

I just downloaded and installed the trial version. I followed the steps, up to where I'd begin training the filter. Suddenly my entire INBOX (7 accounts on 5 email servers, 6 IMAP, 1 POP) was empty. 1280 messages to 0 in a second. I've restarted Mail (Version 2.1.3 (753.1)) and my computer OS X 10.4.11 Server. Still no emails. Anybody have an idea what has happened and what I can do about it?

If I did something wrong, I'm cutting myself off beer tonight.

Classifying good messages as spam.

Been a long time user of SpamSieve and love the product. Recently upgraded Mail and SpamSieve to latest versions and started having problems with good messages being classified as spam. This includes messages that are part of an existing thread and even messages I sent and BCC'd myself on.

I have the junk filtering in mail disabled as well on MoblieMe. Interesting thing is that of the misclassified messages show up in the spam folder without any coloring. Any help is appreciated.
