SS is soooo slow

I’ve been SS for some time and never had an issue with it, until recently.

When viewing a mailbox, it takes a lifetime for the messages to appear. At this very minute, I’m marking some mail as ‘good’ that was incorrectly flagged as spam. So far, its taken 10 minutes, the hard drive is grinding away, and I can’t use mail.

I’m pretty sure this all started after one of the last OS X or SS updates.

When I get Mail.app back, I’ll trying turn off the rule for SS, in the meantime, anyone else had this problem?

OS X 10.4.10
Dual G5
4.5Gb Ram

Fixed it…
Ok - so its looks like the culprit was Safari 3.02 Beta. The Apple forums have some lengthy posts on Safari 3 beta slowing down Mail.app.

Uninstalled it and things are back to normal!

Now I’m on 10.4.11, including Safari 3, and Apple Mail with SpamSieve is very very slow. This was not the case with Leopard.

That’s a very common configuration, and I haven’t heard other reports of such a problem, so I suspect it’s a local issue.

It would be helpful if you could open the Activity Monitor program and select Mail in the list. When it’s being slow, choose Sample Process from the View menu. Then save the resulting data to a file. Also sample SpamSieve and then send me the two files.
