3.5.5   Importing From Safari

For the basic information about importing Web pages from any browser, see the Importing Web Pages and URLs section. The most common way to import from Safari is to press the capture key so that EagleFiler imports the entire page that you’re viewing using the selected Web page format (e.g. it creates a Web archive).

Selected Text

Safari is special in that it can also import just part of a Web page using the Web archive format. You can do this by selecting part of the page and using drag and drop or one of EagleFiler’s system services.

Alternatively, you can have EagleFiler import the page and also store the selected text in the note. This can be useful for recording that a certain part of the page is important but also storing the full context in which it appears. To do this, just select the text in Safari before you press the capture key. In order for this to work, you may need to enable some extra permissions in Safari:

  1. In Safari’s Advanced settings, check Show features for web developers.
  2. In Safari’s Develop settings, check Allow JavaScript From Apple Events.

Private Web Pages

Some Web pages (e.g. sites that require logging in) cannot be captured by having EagleFiler load the URL shown in Safari’s location bar. For more information, see the Importing Private Web Pages section of the manual.

Twitter/X

Twitter/X now requires logging in. You can import from it as described in the Importing Private Web Pages section of the manual (using services or Save PDF to EagleFiler), however EagleFiler also has special handling for Twitter/X. If you use the capture key in Safari, EagleFiler will create a text file with the contents of the tweet. The source URL is preserved.
